Information about the service

What is the service?

Comstel ICT's nbn® broadband service uses the nbn® network (e.g. Fibre To The Premises, HFC, Fibre To The Curb or Fibre To The Node) to deliver broadband to your premises. These services provide the typical business download and upload speeds listed for each plan in the table above.

Where is it available?

These services are available anywhere that nbn® has rolled out the relevant network technology. For more details you can visit the nbn® rollout map, or contact our team to confirm exactly what's available at your address.

What do I need to access the service?

  • Where applicable, nbn® will need to install equipment on the outside and inside (near a power point) of your premises. A person over 18 must be present for this appointment.
  • You will also need an NBN-ready modem/router (see equipment fees below).
  • HFC customers will need an NBN Network Termination Device, provided free of charge.

What is included?

  • Gold eSLA — nbn target restoration time of 4 hours
  • Bronze eSLA — nbn target restoration time of 12 hours
  • Basic, no eSLA — best-effort restoration times
  • Static IP address
  • Priority ticket handling from our support team

Do I have to bundle anything?

Bundling is not compulsory. You can opt to bundle a phone service or a static IP.

Minimum term of the service

This service is month-to-month with no fixed term.

Qualifications

This service may be restricted and/or cancelled if:

  • You fail to pay your bill.
  • You are abusive to our staff.
  • You breach our terms and conditions or our fair use policy, available at comstel.com.au/terms-conditions.

Service availability

Service is not available to all areas, site addresses or customers. The type of service offered may need further qualification checks to determine what's available at your location. We'll try to contact you if all your services can't be connected; however if we can't get in touch you'll be connected to the lowest-priced plan(s).

Broadband speeds

An nbn® service can never go faster than the maximum line speed available at your premises, so for FTTN, FTTB and FTTC customers we will confirm your actual speeds after connection and let you know if your line can't achieve your plan's maximum. Speeds vary due to several factors, including the technology at your address, any nbn® speed add-ons, network capacity, your modem and cabling, Wi-Fi vs Ethernet, your hardware and software, the content you access, and the number of users.

Hardware & power outages

We will provide you with a modem that supports voice services. We recommend you consider additional security options to suit your network environment and business needs. As no service can provide guaranteed 100% up-time, we recommend you maintain an alternate service as a backup if your nbn® service is critical to your business. In the event of a power outage, nbn® services will not function except FTTP services with a working battery-backup unit installed. If you use a medical or security alarm, please contact your alarm provider before switching to confirm compatibility and identify alternatives if needed.

Equipment fees

You don't have to purchase an NBN-ready modem/router from Comstel ICT, but we can provide one if you prefer: modem/router cost starts from $180 plus postage. Postage costs are $15 for standard mail, $20 for express mail or $25 courier post.

New development fee

nbn® may charge a $300 new development fee for deploying network infrastructure to new premises or dwellings. This may apply to each new premises requiring an nbn® connection — including new dwellings, lots under reconstruction, and new buildings requiring a new mailing address. We'll inform you at sign-up if this fee may apply.

Other charges

  • Standard Professional Installation: $240 if a technician visits your premises.
  • Connecting to the nbn® network: nbn Co charges $300 for first-time connections in new developments. We'll let you know if this applies and include it on your bill.
  • Non-standard installations: additional charges apply for complex or remote-area installations, and additional connection points may be charged by nbn Co. We'll endeavour to advise you in advance.

Other possible charges

  • If you bundle your broadband with a phone service or bolt-on features, your monthly cost may differ. See the relevant critical information summary for phone services, or speak to our staff.
  • You can change your plan at any time for no fee. If upgrading before the end of your billing cycle, you'll pay the difference between your current and new plan. We don't prorata refunds on plan downgrades.
  • Optional NTD upgrade charges may apply up to $297 based on order selection.
  • An optional second line installed as a safety net during changeover costs $297. It is your responsibility to arrange any relevant cabling through a licensed contractor.

Changes to your plan

We may from time to time make changes to your plan pricing. If a change is materially detrimental to you, we'll provide you with 30 days' written notice.

Changing your plan

You can change to another eligible plan once a month during your minimum term without re-contracting or paying Early Termination Charges.

Fair Use Policy

You must comply with our Fair Use Policy and not use your services in an unreasonable or fraudulent manner, or in a way that detrimentally interferes with the integrity of the network. We may take action if you breach it, including suspending or cancelling your service, or reducing its speed.

Other information

Call & usage information

You can check your usage via your Comstel ICT customer portal at managemyaccount.com.au.

Customer service

We have an all Australian-based team who can help with any technical support, account or sales questions. Just call us on 1300 700 600, or lodge a fault via your Comstel customer portal.

Moving to the nbn® network

Your contract could overlap with the rollout of the nbn® network. Contact us if you wish to transfer to Comstel on the nbn® network. During provisioning and installation you may receive a number of messages from us and nbn Co — it's important you respond if asked, as failure to do so may delay your installation. Someone over the age of 18 must be present at the premises during installation. Whilst we endeavour to reduce any time without a service to the minimum, some period without a service may occur as a consequence of events beyond our control.

nbn® satisfaction guarantee

If you're moving to the nbn® network for the first time and you're not happy with your service for any reason, let us know within 30 days of connection and we'll do our best to fix it — or you can cancel without penalty. We'll even refund your monthly plan fee for that first month.

Understanding my bill

Your bill is issued on the same date each month. You're billed in advance for the minimum monthly charge, and in arrears for any usage not included in your plan. You may also be charged for individual services until all those in your plan are connected, so your first few bills may be higher or lower than expected.

Complaints

If you're not happy with your service, you can follow our dispute resolution process — see comstel.com.au/contact-us.

Ombudsman

If you're still not happy after following our dispute resolution process, you can contact the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO) for independent mediation by calling 1800 062 058 or visiting tio.com.au/making-a-complaint.
