Solar, storage & grid — in one smart system.
A hybrid solar system combines solar panels, battery storage and grid connection into one intelligent energy system. Solar by day, batteries by night, grid and backup when you need them — designed and installed by Comstel Energy for Australian conditions.
Energy independence, around the clock.
With a hybrid system you’re never at the mercy of the weather or the grid — your power adapts automatically to whatever the day throws at it.
Solar runs you by day, batteries cover the night and cloudy spells, and the grid is there as backup.
Self-consumption of your own solar — versus 30–50% for a typical solar-only system.
Time spent in the dark during an outage — backup keeps nominated circuits running.
Four components, one smart system.
The hybrid inverter is the brain — deciding in real time whether to use solar directly, charge the battery, draw from storage, export to the grid, or switch to backup. All automatic, all optimised for cost and reliability.
Solar Panels
Generate DC electricity from sunlight on rooftop or ground-mount arrays.
Hybrid Inverter
The brain — converts DC to AC and routes power between solar, battery & grid.
Battery Storage
LiFePO4 lithium banks store excess solar for evening, cloudy days or backup.
Grid Connection
Export excess solar for credits; import only when solar & battery are spent.
Sized to how you use power.
Every system is custom-designed, but most projects start from one of three scopes. We’ll confirm the right fit at your free site review.
Solar + Starter Storage
Self-consume more solar and keep key circuits on during outages.
- Solar array + hybrid inverter
- Entry-level battery storage
- Backup for essential circuits
- Grid export for credits
Solar + Full Storage
Run on your own energy day and night, with strong blackout protection.
- Everything in Essential
- Larger LiFePO4 battery bank
- Evening & cloudy-day coverage
- Whole-of-premises backup options
- 70%+ self-consumption target
Scalable Hybrid Plant
Maximum independence and resilience for high-usage or rural sites.
- Everything in Balanced
- High-capacity, modular storage
- Multi-array / multi-inverter design
- Demand management integration
- Built to scale as you grow
Built for premises that can’t afford to go dark.
If reliable power, lower bills and energy independence matter to your home or business, a hybrid system pays its way — in resilience and in dollars.
Businesses & Offices
Cut daytime grid use, store solar for the evening and protect against outages.
Farms & Rural
Strong sun, weaker grids — hybrid delivers reliable, self-sufficient power.
Retail & Hospitality
Keep refrigeration and tills running through outages, day or night.
Homes & Acreage
Maximise self-consumption and keep essentials on when the grid drops.

Quick answers before you get in touch.
What is a hybrid solar system?
A hybrid solar system combines solar panels, battery storage and a grid connection into one intelligent system. Solar powers you by day, batteries take over at night or in cloudy conditions, and the grid provides backup — with the hybrid inverter automatically switching between all three for the best cost and reliability.
How is hybrid different from a normal grid-tied solar system?
A standard grid-tied system only uses solar while the sun is shining and sends the rest to the grid — and it shuts down in a blackout. A hybrid system adds battery storage, so you can use your own solar after dark and keep essential circuits running during grid outages.
Will a hybrid system keep my power on during a blackout?
Yes — with the right configuration, a hybrid system provides backup power to nominated circuits when the grid goes down, so critical equipment keeps running. We scope which loads to back up based on your needs at design time.
How much of my own energy can I use with a hybrid system?
Hybrid systems typically lift self-consumption well above a solar-only setup — often 70%+ versus 30–50% — because stored solar is used in the evening instead of being exported cheaply and bought back at peak rates.
Are your hybrid systems compliant with Australian standards?
Yes. Comstel Energy designs and installs to the relevant Australian standards for grid-connected inverter and battery systems (including AS/NZS 4777 and AS/NZS 5139), so your system is safe, compliant and eligible for available incentives.
Can a hybrid system grow with my business?
Yes — hybrid designs are modular. You can start with solar and a hybrid inverter and add battery capacity later, or scale the whole system as your energy needs grow. We design with that headroom in mind.
